Slugfest Charity Slo-Pitch

Having a positive impact in the lives of hundreds of people we may never even meet!

May 25, 2019 Martensville Kinsmen Diamonds

Together we are supporting 2 worthy charities:

  • Special Olympics Saskatoon – Steve K. is a softball coach and this year his team is preparing to compete in the 2018 National Games in Nova Scotia. Funds raised will be used to sponsor the 85 athletes from Saskatoon that will represent Saskatchewan while competing in various sporting events.
  • PablOpen & Families Fighting Cancer – Steve has raised money and donated my hair 3 times since this event started and each year we have kids and adults doing the same. Each person donating their hair proudly accepts donations leading up to their very special hair-cut which takes place at Slugfest.

What Tournament Teams can expect:

  • Full tournament registration includes 24 paying teams and 4 additional teams from Special Olympics playing their own games in the afternoon. All teams play 3 games.
  • Tournament games follow unique Slugfest plus/minus rules where each team has an equal number of at bats to score runs. This is a recreational event designed to have fun, raise money and build stronger communities.
  • All teams receive gift packages including prizes and gift certificates. There are free snacks provided such as water, fruit and cookies throughout the day.
  • Hit, Run and Throw Competition for those players wanting to compete at a higher level. Individual registration required for participation.
  • This is a licensed event with a kitchen serving breakfast, lunch and dinner items. This means no outside food out liquor is permitted.
  • Silent Auction, Raffle and Progressive 50/50 draws to bid on and buy tickets for will be available. Last year the 50/50 draw reached $2,000 for the winner.

Slugfest Charity Slo-pitch has become an event that people truly love. It is a great day that includes lots of laughter and friendships made while having a positive impact in various families and communities. History

In 2006, Al Andersons Source for Sports created an event that would determine Saskatchewan’s biggest home run hitter and called it SlugFest. Al Andersons asked Steven Koszman (Kush), a slo-pitch player and event planner, to plan and promote this event. Now entering its 11th year, Slugfest Charity Slo-pitch has a massive impact on the community by bringing people together for a charitable cause.

The year 2016 was the biggest year of this event to date. The tournament hosted 28 teams and about 300 people throughout the day. Special Olympics Saskatoon was given over $19,000 that could be used to support the athletes. Pablo’s Ultimate Fight was able to support families with youth fighting cancer using nearly $5,000 raised in hair cut donations.

If you can support this event in some way we would love to hear from you. You can register a team to play, become a corporate sponsor or simply make a charitable donation. Coming as a spectator and enjoying a burger is a contribution that is accepted. We are happy to include everyone at this community event filled with family, friends and fundraising.

See you soon!
